5 Tips To Improve Your Squidoo Page Rank

make money

Here are some great tips for improving your Squidoo page rank . If you are new to Squidoo and are reading this article I suggest reading my first post about Squidoo. It explains what Squidoo is.

Are you having some trouble ranking in the first three tiers on Squidoo?  If you are not aware of what the tiers are read this Squidoo Payday Questions & Answers.

These tips will help boost your lens into Tier 1, 2 or 3,  and will help you make more money. Also,  as an added bonus your lens will rank well on Google too!!  So, let’s get started…

Tip #1 Make sure you pick a URL with the keyword in it. The first step to building a lens is to pick a URL, so you want to make sure that you pick one that is related to the subject you are going to write about.

Tip #2 Your intro is super important! Make sure you write a good intro because it gives the person who is reading your lens and idea of what it is about. And, a bonus is that this is what shows up on the search when someone sees your page on Google so make sure your keyword is in the introduction.

Tip #3 Don’t forget a photo! Photos are important because it creates interest to the reader. People like photos, have you ever read an article without photos? It’s kinda boring right? Well…I think you get the picture. (Couldn’t resist it).

Tip #4 Keep the Guestbook module. By adding a Guestbook, it makes the reader feel like they are part of what you have written about. It’s fun to give an opinion or to just say, “Hey, good job” or “I love to make Guacamole too” whatever it is, it’s fun to give your ideas or to encourage a new lens master.

Tip #5 Write a good bio! I see new Lensmasters all the time, and one of the biggest letdowns is when someone doesn’t put a picture up and it just has the generic “Hello world this is my bio” So, make sure you put up a recent picture of yourself and just briefly say a little bit about who you are. You will gain respect and credibility when you do this step.

Bonus * – Participate in liking and sharing other peoples lenses on Squidoo. This will boost the lens ranking and will help you too! If you help out someone, they will in turn help you.

How To Get Started With Squidoo

I see so many people that sign up for Squidoo and then don’t do anything with it. It really makes me sad because there is so much opportunity waiting.  You just have to know what to do. What is holding you back from getting started? Is it just simply that you don’t know where to start? Or is it that you think it’s just another social website? Or maybe you don’t feel like you can write or that you don’t have anything to write about. Don’t worry about all of those things. The first thing to do is set up your profile. Once you do that then you will start to put a lens together.

There isn’t any time limit or there isn’t anyone telling you that the topic you write about isn’t any good. Just write about what you are passionate about. I love the beauty industry, so I focused on what I know about and started writing lenses on that subject. Maybe you love cars or maybe you love animals. Write about that.

You can also use Squidoo to promote your other websites. If you have another website just write a lens that has an article with links that go back to your website. Squidoo is very effective for back links. Just remember to adhere to the TOS of Squidoo. So, when you start putting your lens together make sure you read the TOS.

I have been a Squidoo lensmaster since 2008 and have seen some really big changes through the years. I have seen lensmasters come and go. Some stick with it and make thousands of dollars per month and then I see some that are new and give up.  Squidoo is not a get rich quick system, it  is not a scam nor is a place to spam. It’s a place to write about what you know about, share it with others and make money while you do. If you are serious about making extra money to help pay the bills, or to have as extra income I say get started now.

My last payout was $515.00!! I made $515 dollars for writing about what I love! That is very cool! You can do the same thing, If you don’t know what to do and need help. I can help you get started. I have a course on how to make a Squidoo lens.

Don’t wait to get started.

10 Great Squidoo Lens Ideas

Are you stuck with ideas for writing your next lens? I get stuck too sometimes. But, don’t worry I have some great ideas for you to get your creative juices flowing again.

#1 Pets- Write about your favorite pet or about your  favorite animal. You can  write about a pet you had in your past. You can write about  your neighbors pet and wild animals too.  If you want to earn some cash while writing about a pet or your favorite animal, write some paragraphs about how to train your pet or how to build a house for your pet. example: Dogs – Dog collars, Dog houses, How to train whatever animal.

#2 Babies and moms – There are a lot of parents out there who would love to write about their child or how to raise a child. There are tons of topics on raising children, anywhere from what they can wear down to how to teach them.

example: Baby clothing, Strollers,  toddler learning toys, homeschooling.

#3 Electronics – This one is huge! It’s not only a huge topic that can be broken down into small niches, but it’s a huge money maker. You can do reviews on TV’s, DVD and Blu -ray  players, ipods, and tons more. I personally have started writing lenses on electronics and have already made some extra cash. Even thought electronics is not really my forte it’s easy to write about.

#4 Toys – Toys are also a huge topic and really do very well during the holidays! Think bestsellers in toys and you have a winner!

#5 Books – There is a book for everything , and now that there is the e-readers you can write about your favorite book and do a review on it. Or do a review on the e-reader itself.

#6 Food – Okay, this is a big one for me :) I love to eat and I love to eat healthy so I combined my love for health and eating and write about my favorite healthy foods and how to prepare them. You can do anything from a recipe lens to just a my favorites list.

#7 Entertainment – Got a favorite movie you want to share? Do movie reviews and sell the DVD or Blu- ray on your lens. You can do movie memorabilia too. Lot’s of people like to collect movie memorabilia. Think Trekkies, old movies and animation!

#8 Music – This one is in the entertainment idea but it should be an idea on it’s own because you can do so much with this one too. You can do a lens on your favorite artist or a whole genre of music. I did a few on my favorite rock bands and they get lots of traffic and rank very well! Plus they are so much fun to write. I use videos and polls and everyone participates.

#9 Fashion – Are you a fashonista? Do you love clothes? Share your ideas for new looks with others. It’s a lot of fun putting together new outfit ideas. You can make celebrity fashion lenses too. They do really well on Squidoo.

#10 Holidays – This is a great topic to write about because you can write lenses year round about your favorite holidays. My favs are Halloween and Christmas!

Hey, If you have any ideas on topics to write about on Squidoo, share them here – just comment and I will publish it, but please give legitimate ideas – No spam please :) . I would love to hear what you like to write about and what you think of my site.

How To Make A Squidoo Profile

If you are new to Squidoo and want to be successful, I strongly suggest to start your Squidoo lensmaking by filling in your profile correctly. Many times I see new Squidoo accounts with no profile information. It is very important to fill this in. So here is a step by step tutorial on how to do it.

  • Your first step is to choose a username. This can be anything you want but I suggest making it something easy for people to remember. I also suggest to not use a spammy username like buymystuff. It is too obvious that you are only trying to make money and don’t care.
  • Next, fill in your email address. This will come in handy when Squidoo admin needs to contact you or if someone wants to contact you. Your email will not show on your main profile page. What will happen is a contact me button will appear on your main page.
  • Choose your password, then choose to allow people to contact you and you can also use Google Analytics if you want to. This will come in handy later on when you apply some SEO techniques to your pages.
  • Now, you can fill in your bio information, let everyone know who you are. It makes people feel more comfortable knowing there is a real person with real feelings. This section will ask for your real name. Don’t worry about that either, it will not show on your main page. Its just there for information purposes.
  • Upload a picture. If you are shy about having your own picture on your profile, then upload something that is relevant to what you are interested in or what you are going to write about.
  • Fill out the comments section. I suggest turning off the automatic approval because sometimes people like to spam. It’s just a personal preference for me.
  • Now for the fun part!! Fill in your Payment section. Put in your PayPal account email. You can choose if you want cash, or if you want to donate your money here too. Don’t worry too much about this because if you want cash for some of your lenses and donate to a specific charity on others, you can adjust that on each lens. So, I recommend just filling in the “I want cash” in the payment section.

Note: Fill in the cash threshold to the lowest payout in the beginning which is $1. You can increase it later.

  • And now for the ad settings… I suggest to include them for now. Again, you can adjust them to the individual lens later on.

And, that should do it for your profile section.

A Squidoo Lens Building Checklist

When building your Squidoo lens you will need a guideline to follow in order to help you as you build.

If you follow a guideline you will be able to build a lens that not only rank well, but will look pleasing to the readers eye and will make sense as someone reads your lens.

  • The first step in building a lens is to choose a topic for your lens – This could be anything you know a lot about.
  • Do your research – First research the topic you have chosen to see if it is the best topic for you to use and secondly, research keywords that you are going to use within the lens articles.
  • Now you want to choose the URL you are going to have for your lens… I suggest using the main keyword in the URL for optimum SEO benefit.
  • Choose three keywords to start the lens out. This will be in the beginning as you are choosing the URL.
  • Categorize your lens – Make sure you pick a category that fits your topic.
  • Go to your profile section and fill in your profile – Make sure you introduce yourself and tell the world a little bit about yourself. People like to know who you are.
  • Write your introduction – Make sure you put at least one keyword in the introduction. Write your introduction carefully because this is what is seen in the search engine results and make sure you put a picture in the introduction.
  • Choose an attractive theme. One that goes along with the topic of your lens. If you are doing a lens about recipes, use the “munch” theme.
  • Write your article in the  first text module. Make sure you write original not copied content. Squidoo is very strict about plagiarism.
  • Now you can customize your lens however you want… you can add any module that Squidoo provides. Put a You Tube video on your lens (relevant to your topic of course), Add an amazon module or Ebay module, Add your rss feed to your blog. Whatever you want.
  • When you are finished, make sure you check for spelling errors and check how the lens looks as a whole.
  • Once you have proofread your lens…Now you can Publish.
  • Ping your lens and submit it to bookmarking sites. You can even tweet or Facebook a link to your new lens.

And there you have it, A checklist to building your lens.

Happy lens building!!
